New Addition, But Not to the Site

I know things have been a little quiet around here for a while, but this time I have a really-for-real excuse. And here he is.

So I might be taking it easy for a few more days on the site, but in the meantime you can enjoy this awesome reminisce of Old Carson that was left in the comments.

I remember many many movies at the Carson Cinema Theater from the mid-1950’s to 1966. As well, I also saw quite a few amateur productions mounted on the stage there such as the High School Comedy Night and the Miss Carson City Pageants. It was generally a well-run and clean theater with ample seating which provided Carson City with fairly good cinema for such a small town. A lot of my peers were delighted to learn that the Theater would show Moby Dick (the Gregory Peck version) at the same time that it was assigned reading and test material for a high school English course. Between that and the Classic Comic version, an A was guaranteed to all but the laziest. After the movie, the audience would diffuse through the town, some walking home under the arching trees, some to the Dairy Queen on Fifth for a sweet or the Pine Cone for a plate of sizzling fries or the Nugget for an Awful-Awful, others to cruise Main, and a few fortunate ones to the river or to King’s Canyon for a nip or a snuggle. Life was simpler then.

I also remember quite well the Drive-In at the North end of town since my house was a block away; my friends and I would occasionally grab a blanket and Cokes, crawl under the barbed wire fence surrounding the property, cuddle up to a speaker pole, and enjoy our felonious selves.

  1. Congratulations! I’m in CA waiting for the birth of my first grand child and she’s late by four days. We envy you! Jack is handsome. Enjoy him while he’s small. They grow up way too fast. t
