Mile High Jazz Band with guest vocalist Jakki Ford presents “Autumn Jazz,” a program of big-band jazz on Tuesday, October 9, 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street. Comma Coffee is across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. General admission is $5 at the door; $4 for members of the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc.; and free for age 18 and under. Dance instruction, 6:00-7:30 p.m. is $5 additional.
The Mile High Jazz Band includes five trumpets, four trombones, five saxophones, keyboard, bass, and drums. They will play about twenty tunes from their repertoire of over a hundred selections in the style of Basie, Ellington, and more contemporary arrangers. Known for her vocal range and stylistic versatility, Jakki Ford is a frequent performer in area showrooms and at special events. The performance is funded, in part, by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
