This has been brewing for a few months, but it looks like renovation work has finally started on the old Long John Silver’s building on South Carson. This fast food place closed just about two years ago, ostensibly over a grease trap dispute. It has sat vacant since then, with For Sale and For Lease signs up on the front lawn. But recently the signs indicated it had been leased, then I started seeing people with blueprints and hard hats milling around, then signs went up for Lopiccolo Construction, the same folks who did the Firkin and Fox renovation. Now work seems to have really started in earnest; driving by yesterday I saw they were putting up a new roof. So we can expect to see the poor old building transformed into something new over the spring and summer.
Update: I’ve heard this is going to be the new home of the Sugarplum Bakery, which will be relocating from Genoa. Sounds like a great place, and hopefully there will be enough traffic and visibility to help them thrive in the new location.
