More details are coming out about the Brewery Arts Center’s plan to take over part of Minnesota Street to create a unified plaza between their brewery building and the performance hall in the old church. The Nevada Appeal has an article that includes this concept drawing, showing a large bowl amphitheater surrounded by a grassy park. This plaza would not only be used for BAC performances, but would also be a public area and available for weddings, recitals, and other non-BAC uses. This plan is exactly what I hoped it would be, a multi-use facility that would be a public asset and not just a private venue.
This plan goes before the city planning commission on October 29, and it will be under extra scrutiny since they’ll have to close a stretch of Minnesota Street to build it. If the street abandonment is approved by the planning commission, then it will go to the board of supervisors for a final decision. And if everything is approved, it may take up to three years to get everything built.
I like the looks of this plan. Just make sure the pottery studio stays!
