The Carson City mayor’s race is starting to get crowded. Ever since mayor Marv announced that he wouldn’t be running for a fourth(!) term, several people have stepped forward with an interest in the job. This week is the week to actually put your papers in if you want to run, so now we can see who’s serious about taking on the job. So far we have a school board president, a doctor, a Realtor, and a pastor. And as of today, we have a barber.
Adam Baker owns Les’ Barber Shop on Winnie Lane, and he thinks he’s the right guy for the job. But he’s not just a barber, he’s also an artist who paints portraits of his customers in between clippings. And he’s also a filmmaker, with a 6-part travel odyssey posted on YouTube titled Kenny’s Big Adventure.
Adam himself introduces what Kenny’s Big Adventure is all about in the first video below, but here’s the elevator pitch. A couple of years ago, when Governor Kenny Guinn was leaving office, he solicited for artists to paint his official portrait to hang in the State Capitol. 16 artists from all over Nevada submitted “audition portraits” of the governor, but rather than award one of them the job Kenny picked a non-Nevadan to paint his portrait. This cheesed Adam off a little bit, so he took his audition portrait in a rented van and went on a little journey. He visited all 50 state capitals with the portrait, and in each one he took a photo of Kenny hanging out in the men’s room of the Capitol Building. Mounted him right over the urinal. Naturally this got him a fair bit of press. But the real record of his trip is right here on YouTube, in six parts. Sit back and enjoy; this epic is nearly an hour long.
Who needs an election? Just give him the mayor’s office right now.
