After months of preparations, this is the week that Caesars Tahoe finally changes its name to the MontBleu Resort. It’s been in the works for almost a year now, ever since Caesars sold the hotel/casino to Columbia Sussex, who also owns the Horizon Casino across the street.
The big kickoff starts Wednesday night at 8:30 with Howie Mandel, followed by a fireworks show. Then there are special events all weekend, including shows by Sugar Ray and George Clinton, and more fireworks on Saturday.
This isn’t the first name change for this particular casino. When it opened in 1978 it was called the Park Tahoe, named for the Park Cattle Company which owned it. It didn’t become Caesars until 1980. And the casino across the street opened as the Sahara Tahoe, then changed into Del Webb’s High Sierra before settling on the name Horizon.
