This update was going to be different. I was going to put up two identical pictures, and say one was from the start of February, and the other was from the end of February. The point being that they didn’t do anything to the place all month. But then, the last weekend of February, they shocked me by bringing in the steelworkers. They started assembling some sort of frame over the east entrance, facing Carson Street.
It’s still a mystery what this is going to be. A rebuilt portecochere, perhaps? It’s certainly shaped too weird to be an extension of the casino or anything like that. Can’t figure out what else it could be.
I guess we’ll be able to tell in time, as it comes together more. For now, it’s just good to see those steel beams being put to use and something actually getting built instead of torn apart.
Speaking of tearing apart, they’ve made a small amount of progress on the north side, where the mountain-shaped coffee shop windows used to be. The custom cut mountain-shaped studs were taken out, but all the other studs remain.
And they took out one of the sets of emergency stairs. Now you’ve really got to watch that last step!
More in March? We can only hope!
