Ormsby County Courthouse Then and Now

President Theodore Roosevelt visited Carson City on May 19, 1903. Carson Street was heavily decorated for his visit. Here is the Ormsby County Courthouse across the street from the Capitol, where T.R. spoke. The old Courthouse was demolished and replaced with a new one in the 1920s.

  1. Thank you for the emails and rich history of Carson City. I lived there at a young age from the mid 70’s to the early 80’s. It’s interesting to see what happened to some of the old places.

  2. I’m curious as to why the original courthouse was demolished. In the pictures of the day Pres Roosevelt visited it looks pretty sturdy.
I enjoy your reflections and insights on the bygone days! Not originally from the area, I have been able to answer a lot of questions about certain empty lots and vacant buildings by reading your blog and want to thank you for preserving the rich history of our area through your photos and narratives!
