It turns out this weekend you have your choice of trains to take. The Nevada State Railroad Museum will be running steam trains around their little circle of track all day Friday and Saturday, but the V&T Railway will also be running a few special steam trains on the new tracks between Carson City and Virginia City the same days. If you missed taking the trip this fall, this is your chance to make up for it. They’re offering four different excursions:
* Virginia to Carson one-way, Friday morning, $29
* Carson to Virginia round trip, Friday and Saturday, $48
* Carson to Virginia one-way, Saturday afternoon, $29
To buiy tickets online, visit www.dynamicticketsolutions.com/cccvb/, or call (775) 687-7410. The Saturday afternoon train leaves at 4:30, which is right around sunset this time of year. So this will be a night train, which should be pretty exciting even if you’ve already made the trip before.
This isn’t the last weekend the train is running this year; they’ll also be running the first three Saturdays in December. But those runs are scheduled to be pulled by the diesel. (They’re also $10 cheaper). So this weekend is your last chance to catch a steam train to Virginia City.
