It’s that time of year again, time to hop on board a camel for a quick jaunt down the track. That’s right, the Virginia City Camel Races are taking place this weekend. The Camel Races started out as a joke, but soon became a real event. Now the races take place annually, attracting nearly 50,000 people up to the Comstock to watch the festivities.
If you go, general admission is $10. The gates open at 1pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the races start at 1:30. After the races are over and the gates close, you can stick around for the late-night celebrations. The Camel Hump Ball takes place on Friday night, and on Saturday the Block Party Bash takes over C Street. And be sure to stick around for the championship races Sunday at 4, followed by the award ceremony.
