In spite of the roundabout construction, this is the weekend you’ll want to be heading into Minden. It starts on Friday night, with the second installment of the 2006 Concerts in the Park series in Minden Park. This week Mumbo Gumbo is playing, so this is the show you want to make sure you don’t miss. Music starts at 6:30, so bring your lawn chairs and a picnic dinner down to Minden Park.
Then on Sunday, July 2nd, Minden is celebrating its centennial. In 1906 the Dangberg family built a town from scratch, in the middle of their cow pastures, to be the terminus of the V&T Railroad. They named it “Minden”, after the region in Germany where their father had been born (he didn’t live to see the new Minden, having died two years earlier). And now, 100 years later, the town is celebrating by putting on a day-long festival at Minden Park. There will be a parade, children’s games from the 1900s, a free lunch, and music by the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra. There will also be walking tours of the downtown area, and a historic display inside the CVIC Hall.
So whatever you’re doing this weekend, make sure your plans involve spending time in Minden!
