Apparently Carson City has come up with a new method of creating firebreaks — sheep. Today, they released nearly 300 sheep out on C Hill to graze a 3 mile long firebreak from C Hill to Lakeview Estates.
Now all we need to do is see if it actually works… and if they can actually keep the sheep where they want them. I’ll give them praise if they can manage that…
This is my company, Resource Concepts, Inc., doing the consulting work on this project. We’ve had success in other parts of the state with grazing reducing the fire risk, and it’s probably the easiest way to get that flammable cheatgrass out of there.
My boss, John McLain, was quoted in Saturday’s article.
