An article in the Nevada Appeal today talks about the economic viability and fundraising progress of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad project. They’re looking at the railroad bringing enough tourists to add up to $8 million in non-gaming revenue and $10 million in gaming revenue, presumably each year. But my favorite quote comes from Kevin Ray, the project coordinator for the railroad. He said the project would be completely done, running from Carson City to Virginia City, by 2009. “Or, as we like to say, prior to the Ormsby House…being completed.”
Yeah, no kidding. Now, to be completely fair to the Ormsby House, they have been making steady progress. It’s almost the end of the month, so I’ll be putting together the July gallery soon, and there have been some promising developments being made over there lately. Such as actually putting glass in the windows. But it’s still going to be a long time before they finish. The idea of them still working on it in 2009 sounds silly, but so did 2005 way back when they first started remodeling.
