This little building at 110 South Curry Street in Carson City has been through a lot. And I don’t know the whole history of it. The assessor’s site dates it to 1870, which would make it one of the oldest buildings in town. Roughly the same age as the Capitol Building. Various claims about the building say it was a livery stable, a freight depot, and a stage stop. The National Register of Historic Places calls it the Calvin H. Maish House, but I can’t find much else about him other than his obituary, which says he was a Civil War veteran who came to Carson City in the 1860s and died in 1913 at the age of 72.
In this photo here, the building was part of the Victoria Wedding Chapel. The sign over the door seems to say “Old Time Photo Studio”. This also later housed the Great Basin Art Gallery and Carson City Art Gallery, as well as Aunt B’s Antique Store.
Now this well-used building is home to Bub’s Bookstore, opened just this summer by Rob Fuller and Demi Pettway.
My father was married to his third wife here. Back in the day when you could still toss rice at the bride and groom. I have pictures if your interested. Is almost forgot about this place.
