Many of Carson City’s old motels have been torn down, and many others have been renamed. It’s pretty rare to find a motel that still exists and has the same name as the old postcards. But that’s exactly what we have with the Mill House Inn. Built in the 1960s, the Mill House Inn used to be way out of town, back when Carson City ended at Fairview Drive. But the town grew and now it’s just another motel along South Carson Street.

Nowadays the Mill House looks pretty much the same as it used to, even down to the water wheel. But, when I was looking at it, I didn’t see any people or any cars on property. So the motel might be closed now. The Assessor’s Office shows that new owners took over in 2021, so who knows what could be planned for it. At least for now, it still retains most of its mid century charm.
