We looked at the Morgan Mill on the Carson River a couple of weeks ago. Here is a look from a different angle. Photographer Carleton Watkins traveled around western Nevada photographing a lot of the mining infrastructure, and thanks to him we have these detailed records of the mines and mills. Water was important to the operation of these mills, and that’s why so many of them were built along this stretch of the river. These photos show how the mill was seated right on the bank of the river. Now the river has been allowed to return to a natural state. BLM and USGS offices sit on the land where the mill used to be.
