Empire City was located along the Carson River east of Carson City. It grew up around the wood and silver mills that were along the river, and it was also a stop on the V&T Railroad when that came through in 1869. As the only other town in the Eagle Valley, it was within sight of Carson City, which could be seen at the base of C Hill in the background. At its height, Empire City had a population of 700 people. But unlike Carson City, which kept growing, Empire City dwindled in the late 1800s and basically disappeared in the 20th century.
Now the actual townsite itself is completely empty, though there are houses, industry, and a golf course nearby. The Empire City name is forgotten and this is just part of Carson City now. All that remains is the Empire Cemetery, on top of this hill looking out over the former town.
