When the Virginia and Truckee Railroad was running, they had branches going to Reno, Minden, and Virginia City. All of these branches met at Carson City. And for the most part, the paths the railroad took through town are streets now. The line to Virginia City went alongside Hwy 50 East. The branch to Minden followed Stewart Street to the south. And the line to Reno went west along Washington Street, then turned north at the town limits, and traveled through the sagebrush before climbing the hill to Washoe Valley. That’s the scene we see above, a train pulled by Locomotive #27 heading towards Reno just after making that turn in the shadow of C Hill.

Although this was outside of town back then, Carson City has expanded since then to fill the entire Eagle Valley. What used to be sagebrush is now a neighborhood. But, the route of the railroad was preserved. Where the tracks used to be is now Longview Way, by Kingston Park.
