812 N. Division Then and Now

Here is another one of Carson City’s lost houses. I had driven past this one frequently for years and never really paid any attention to it. It was small and unassuming, semi hidden behind trees and bushes. 812 N. Division Street was at the corner of Division and Ann Streets, and there wasn’t much I could find about its history. Historian Stephen E. Drew suggested it was once the home of Arnold Gillie, who was Master Mechanic of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad in the 1940s. Or at least his widow lived here for a time.

I didn’t pay any attention to the house until tractors appeared on the site, and I knew it was going to be torn down. So I quickly went over and took a bunch of pictures of it, which I assembled into a Ghosts of Carson article in 2013. Soon after, the little house and its outbuildings were wiped away. A pair of multi-family townhouses were built on the site before long, and the little house was forgotten. I’m glad I got the pictures of it, so it can at least be remembered a little.
