Tag: superburritoWednesday, March 24, 2010I went to Super Burrito for lunch today and got, fittingly enough, a Super Burrito. I can see why so many people have said they like this place, because the burrito was really good. It was nice and tasty without having that artificial processed taste you can get at Taco Bell or even Qdoba. The standard burrito comes with meat, rice, refried beans, and guacamole. And there are plenty of other options too, all-meat burrito, vegetarian burritos, tacos, tostadas, taquitos, and even a breakfast menu. I think I'll definitely be going back there. You can tell, though, that they didn't expend too much energy remodeling the building. In fact it's fair to say they did the least amount of work possible. There are still hooks in the wall where the Burger King owners took down pictures when they moved out. But you don't go there for the decor, and the cost of remodeling would probably just raise the price of the food anyway. And it's not keeping people away. The place was pretty busy, with the drive-thru line backed up to the speaker and beyond, and a constant stream of people coming in the door. So let's hope Super Burrito sticks around for a while. I think it has a good shot. Tags: carsoncity superburrito Tuesday, March 23, 2010I first saw this on Carson Now, and drove by last night to see for myself. The new Super Burrito in Carson City is open. I've heard nothing but good things about Super Burrito, people who have visited their Reno stores and liked what they tasted. So I'm going to have to stop by for lunch this week. Also, next door to Super Burrito, Lily's China Bistro seems to be getting closer to opening. The sign, which was taken down soon after it went up, has been reinstalled along with several other signs around the property. A notice in the window says "Opening Soon". After over 20 years of selling fast food fish, the franchise owners decided in 2007 to close the doors and leave town, supposedly over a dispute about grease traps. The building sat empty for two years, until finally a new tenant started moving in, the Sugarplum Bakery, which was relocating from Genoa to Carson. It opened last June, but only lasted about three weeks before closing their doors too. The bakery later relocated to Minden, but the Long John Silver building still sat empty. Over the last few weeks I've seen activity around the building, so I thought there might be a new tenant in the works. And indeed, early this morning I drove by to find a sign had gone up for Lily's China Bistro. I've never heard of it before, but that could be good news, a new business owner trying to make a go of it. This is right next door to the old Burger King, which is still in the process of being converted to Super Burrito, another local business that already has three stores in Reno. So if the national franchises are leaving and locals moving in, that could be a good trend towards bringing Carson City's economy back to life. Tags: carsoncity construction superburrito As I said on Twitter last night, I was driving through Minden for the first time in a couple of weeks, and saw that the old Taco John's building, right next door to McDonald's, has a sign saying "Super Burrito Coming Soon". Taco John's closed a little over a year ago, after being open for only two years. Super Burrito seems to be taking advantage of the hard fortunes of some other companies to expand their operations into the Eagle and Carson Valleys. They're also opening a store in the old Burger King building by Carson Mall. A few commenters have said that the Super Burritos in Reno and Sparks make pretty good food, so I'm looking forward to these opening so I can try it out. Tags: minden superburrito Wednesday, January 20, 2010Looks like the old Burger King on south Carson, the one that just closed last month, already has found a new tenant. Today they were putting up signs that say "Coming Soon, Super Burrito". Super Burrito is a small Mexican food chain based out of Reno, with only two stores in Reno and Sparks. Looks like this will be their third. I've never been to Super Burrito so I can't say how good the food is, or if this new place will be a permanent addition to Carson City. Has anyone out there partaken of a Super Burrito? Update: Pictures of the signs they put up yesterday. Good to know I wasn't seeing things! Tags: burgerking carsoncity downtowncc superburrito |
