All through the Thanksgiving holiday we kept noticing the folks standing on street corners all over town, advertising the final days of the Carson City Mervyn's. In the last days the signs started proclaiming "All Items Under $12.99!" And the prices dropped, to $10, $5, and finally $2, so we knew we had to stop by. We went in on Saturday, not knowing at the time that it was the store's last day, but the signs out front saying it was the "Last 1 Days!" clued us in.

So I brought my camera in and took as many pictures as I could until the manager came by and said, "You can't take pictures in here, buddy." So we left, partly to get away from the cloud of B.O. trailing behind the manager, but mostly because all the $2.00 merchandise left was ugly as sin and we didn't find anything we wanted to buy.

So here, then is the final record of Mervyn's in Carson City.

Looks like Carson City was finally ahead of the curve in one area. Back in August it was announced that our Mervyn's would be closing. Well, we must have started a hot new trend because now the news comes down the pipe that ALL Mervyn's everywhere are closing! And to think, it all started here.

Speaking of Mervyn's, their Going Out of Business sale has been going on for quite a while now. I don't know when they're going to shut the doors for good, but I need to get over there and take some pictures before they do.

One comes in while another leaves town. The Nevada Appeal has a story about Carson City swapping Mervyns, which is closing in a couple months, for Burlington Coat Factory, which opens in about two weeks.

The new 70,000-square-foot Burlington store that will sell the discounted name-brand clothes and home accessories available in its nearly 400 other stores is scheduled to open Aug. 29. The Mervyns company announced Wednesday that the Carson City store would close along with three others in Northern Nevada.

News Carson City has the report that the Mervyn's in Carson City, down south by Raley's, will be closing in a couple of months because it wasn't performing strong enough. The whole company went bankrupt a little bit ago, and closing stores is part of their restructuring. So now Carson City is going to have another big gaping empty store, like we don't have enough of those.
