Tag: ghosttownsThursday, June 14, 2007There is another new website that was brought to my attention, Nowhere Nevada. It looks like they're just getting started, but the site promises to offer photo tours of some of Nevada's ghost towns and backwaters. As of right now only the photo gallery seems to be live, with pictures of out-of-the-way places like Paradise Valley, Grantsville, and Jessup. Looks like a good start so far, and I'm looking forward to following their progress. Plus they have a link to Around Carson already, so that never hurts! Tags: backroads ghosttowns nevada Friday, March 2, 2007There's a really great article by Jonni Hill at the Record Courier today about the cemetery at the ghost town of Aurora. Aurora is located a bit south of Hawthorne, in the middle of the Nevada desert, and was once a pretty good-sized city, one of the largest in the state. In fact, at one time Gardnerville was little more than a stage coach stop on the road from Carson to Aurora. But the only thing keeping the town alive was the mines, and when they died down so did Aurora. Now it's abandoned, and you need a four-wheel-drive vehicle to get there. Tags: aurora ghosttowns |
