Tag: blogosphere« prev1 2 3next » Tuesday, November 18, 2008I was clued into a new Carson City blog, BBQ, Grillin' and Smokin' in Carson City, Nevada, where Tony shares his recipes and techniques for barbecuing in the Eagle Valley. I'd especially like to have one of those pizzas right about now. Tags: blogosphere carsoncity Friday, November 14, 2008Ryan Jerz on Wednesday took a glider up from the Minden Airport, and did a story for Travel Nevada about the experience. He went up for about 45 minutes, and flew over the Valley and Lake Tahoe. Looks pretty cool, and of course he has photos and video of the trip. The last (and only) time I went on a glider was about 17 years ago. They must have changed a lot since then. We didn't go over Lake Tahoe, and we sure didn't do a loop! So he wrote his own "Best Of" list, and Around Carson is the first one on the list. Must be alphabetical. RNR's List: Myrna the Minx Bob's List: Around Carson For what it's worth, I guess my favorites could be considered all the ones that I currently subscribe to in Google Reader. Which is nearly all of these listed, including Bob's. Tags: blogosphere Wednesday, October 15, 2008I was forwarded the link to a new Carson City-based blog. A Little On the Lighter Side , written by a Carson resident, seems to be brand new, and so far is featuring Weight Watchers-friendly recipes. Tags: blogosphere Sunday, October 5, 2008There's a new placeblog for Reno. Titled This Is Reno, and run by Ryan Jerz, it can be found at www.thisisreno.com. Tags: blogosphere reno Wednesday, September 24, 2008The Nevada Appeal today has an article listing some of the different blogs about Carson City that are out there. The article naturally focuses on the blogs that are hosted at the newspaper's website, but also lists a few sites out in the community. Around Carson included. Here are the blogs they list: Tags: blogosphere carsoncity Wednesday, September 17, 2008We're supposed to be getting more bloggers in Carson City, not fewer. But this week one of the pioneers of Carson blogging announced that he's folding up shop. Bob at No Safe Place is putting his blog "up on cement blocks" after three and a half years. He's hinted that he'll be back one day, but still it's a loss when a blog like his goes dark. His Old Nevada posts alone were worth the price of paying attention to the site. Tags: blogosphere carsoncity Friday, June 6, 2008NewsCarsonCity.com has been steadily improving lately. When I first linked to it, the site was little more than an interminable list of videos, trailing off into oblivion. But over the last several months he's been working on turning the site into a blog, with real permalinks and archives that make my job of linking to videos on the site (like this one about the Carson Mall) so much easier. And he's also expanding beyond video and working on writing editorials, like this one about Doppelganger's and downtown redevelopment incentives. The site's still not perfect. The videos are still in Windows Media, which can make them tricky to play on some platforms. Nearly all other online video is using Flash these days, either through YouTube or one of the other contenders, or rolling their own Flash solution. And using Flash would allow other bloggers (like me) to embed the videos directly in their sites, leading to more views and more visibility. But the site is looking so much nicer these days. And the biggest plus is that he now has an RSS feed allowing me to actually keep up with the new videos as they come in. Good stuff. Tags: blogosphere newscarsoncity website Wednesday, May 21, 2008I stumbled across another locally-run blog: France Photography Blog, by local portraitist Kelli France. She shows off some of her photography and talks about her sessions. She also has a more traditional website at francephotography.com. Tags: blogosphere Saturday, May 17, 2008Myrna the Minx was one of the first Reno bloggers, three years ago, and she really seems to have catalyzed the blogging boom that has happened in Reno. Her site at renodiscontent.com has drifted over the years from being about local life and happenings, to being about national politics, to now being an aggregator of other prominent Reno blogs. But through it all Myrna has been at the center, and through it all Myrna has been anonymous, never revealing more than what downtown building she was living in. This has caused some controversy and dicussion about the merits of being anonymous, and I wrote a piece about it nearly two years ago. But now Myrna has decided that it's time for the mask to come off, and has done so in this Reno News and Review article. Tags: blogosphere « prev1 2 3next » |
