COD Garage

1593 Esmeralda Ave, Minden, NV

Constructed in 1912.

The C.O.D. Garage was built in 1912, back when the Town of Minden was still shiny and new and automobiles were very far between. Taking the initials of its founder, Clarence Oliver Dangberg (whose brother H.F. Dangberg founded Minden itself), the garage was the number one place to buy cars and have them repaired in the Carson Valley.

When Clarence Dangberg died in 1938, control of the C.O.D. Garage went to the Hellwinkel family, who held onto it until 2005. That's when the whole business was sold to the GMC dealership across the street, and they consolidated everything in their new modern facilities, leaving this old garage abandoned for the first time in 93 years.

Plans have just been announced for this building to be transformed into a casino, keeping the historic quality of the building while hopefully being able to compete with the Carson Valley Inn down the road.
