The Carson Opera House was built in 1888 at the corner of Telegraph and Spear Streets. It was built to replace an older opera house that was removed to make way for the new post office. For over 40 years Carsonites were entertained here with a large variety of singing, acting, speeches and, in the later years, motion pictures. The opera house burned on April 4, 1931, when a new furnace malfunctioned. The site is now part of the Carson Nugget's parking lot. The Carson Opera House was covered in Then and Now #19.
