On Monday the 7th the groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Carson Street renovation project. The same day, utility work began to the north of downtown, with traffic reduced down to two lanes. This project is now officially underway, so our look at the street that is being torn out continues. Following on from the last post, this time we’ll look at the section between Second and Musser, in front of the Capitol Building.

Third Street

Another component of this project is the permanent abandonment of Third Street between Carson and Curry to build a public plaza. The street now is mostly used for parking for the shops and restaurants along here. That parking will have to move to the city lot on the other side of Curry. Some of the most dramatic differences in the whole project will be along this one block stretch.
