Pony Express Monument

Posted Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 02:44 PM | Permalink | Shortlink

Today was the first time I saw the (fairly) new Pony Express monument on top of a hill in Mound House. Bill Muerle sculpted this metal depiction of a pony express rider barreling through the desert. It was all the idea of Lyon County commissioner and past National Pony Express Association president Larry McPherson, who saw a similar monument in Marysville, Kansas and wanted one for Nevada.

I'm a little late in getting to this. The monument was dedicated in June 2007. But I don't get around much.

Next year,2010, will be the 150th Anniversary of the Pony Express so there should be some fun local events coinciding with this.
