Archive List Wednesday, July 16, 2008CLASSIC CARS, HOT TIMES, COOL RIDES AND ROCK ‘N’ ROLL AT 14TH ANNUAL SILVER DOLLAR CAR CLASSIC IN CARSON CITY, AUG. 1-3(Carson City, Nev.) – One of Carson City’s hottest events returns for its 14th year, the Silver Dollar Car Classic, on Aug 1-3. The annual event broke participation records last year with more than 300 show cars. Organizers hope to fill Mills Park with 400 cars this year. The automobile celebration starts with a party on Thursday, July 31 at 6 p.m. at the Plaza Hotel and Conference Center. The public can get a sneak peek and entrants can size up the competition during the Show ‘n Shine. The party includes 1950s-priced food, drinks and rock ‘n’ roll music. The Friday night street dance features the Route 66 band and Show ‘n Shine in the Carson Nugget’s west parking lot from 7-11 p.m. On Saturday, the official Show ‘n Shine contest runs from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. with the Kiwanis pancake breakfast from 8-10:30 a.m. Mills Park will also host food vendors, craft shows and music throughout the day. Also, a replica Abbott Downing stagecoach will provide rides all day Saturday, powered by real horsepower - four paint horses. The “Wild West Million Dollar Poker Run” kicks off Sunday’s activities. The country’s only $1 Million Poker Run features Nevada Gunfighters to give participants a taste of the Old West. The best poker hand winner gets the chance to win $1 million by hitting a hole-in-one at Empire Ranch Golf Course. The Poker Run is from 8 a.m.-noon and is open to the general public.
