As cute as these little buggers may be, if one googles "raccoons as vectors", one finds numerous diseases and harmful organisms associated with Procyon Lotor (lotor=washer). Raccoons also carry sylvatic plague, rabies, and other diseases and parasites that can be transmitted to humans and domestic animals. (Nowak, 1991; Wilson and Ruff, 1999). This potential threat to human health is accentuated among the very young (<5yo), the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.
Welcome to Around Carson. This is a new experiment for the Carson area, a website that's entirely built by its readers. Read more about the site, or jump in and start contributing!
